About Us
Day One Mama is a branch of Dr. Katie Landier's practice called Day One PT and Pilates. Katie started Day One Mama, because through her own journey of motherhood, which included the devastation of miscarriage, struggle with frustration and stress of getting pregnant again, carrying a healthy baby to full-term, delivering that baby vaginally, and then beginning the journey of parenting, Katie realized that there are unique physical, mental, and emotional needs that require special care and attention for mamas.
So "Day One" is multifold here- Katie would love to see you Day One of your pregnancy journey to help build your mama toolkit with exercises, both for the physical body and mind to help you be the person you want to be throughout pregnancy and motherhood.
You will always remember day one as the day you began this journey. Usually, day one is filled with some moments of realization for what you are able to do versus what you need more practice with. Additionally, there can be many emotions that come with day one of any journey, but particularly motherhood and Katie is here to help you through uncertainty and celebrate you in times of joy and excitement!
With her background as a physical therapist, Katie knows that the human body is an amazing, powerful thing that can heal, transform, and adapt. As a mindfulness instructor, Katie found the power of meditation and mindfulness practices empower her to be the best version of herself, even during difficult times in life. This knowledge and her love for helping people and Pilates led to the development of Day One's core values.
Core Values:
Accessibility
Every body is a Pilates body and every body has the potential to heal. For this reason, all people, no matter if they are prenatal or post-partum or moving through menopause, they should be able to do Pilates. Katie ensures that everyone knows their own modifications, based on their needs, so they can still participate within the class community and utilize the strength they've gained to be even more functional and pain-free in daily life.
Financial accessibility can also pose a challenge for Pilates and PT services, so please reach out to Katie with any concerns to discuss possible options if financial hardship is a concern.
For those who are unable to pay for physical therapy or Pilates services, Katie also creates videos for her YouTube communities through Mama Pilates, as she believes in bringing her knowledge to as many people as possible to help the world be a healthier, happier place.
Connection
Connection to others is key to feeling well and balanced, which is why Katie creates connection with each of her clients through one-on-one interactions.
She also promotes connection within the community of clients at Day One through classes, both online and in-person. Having group classes not only contributes to creating bonds and friendships, which humans need to feel their best, but also to help create accountability to help start and maintain a healthy habit.
Connection with other mamas, to build your tribe of supportive women during all stages of motherhood is essential to help you feel heard, understood, and supported by a group who is going through a similar experience.
Lastly, in order to truly feel our best, we need to connect to our bodies. This is why Katie not only teaches exercises, but mindfulness to connection our brains and bodies to enable a true holistic approach.
Education
Knowledge is not only power, but essential to healing, restoration, and improving one's self.
To paraphrase from Maya Angelou's quote, "When you know better, you do better," the more we know about and can utilize the knowledge of how our bodies work, what our body can currently do and what may need to be adjusted to move more efficiently and effectively, the better we feel.
While Katie is a huge proponent of utilizing the power of the body for restoration and recovery, she also acknowledges that sometimes the body needs help, in the form of surgery or other medical intervention. Continuously educating clients throughout their rehab and Pilates journeys as to current status, expectations, and possible outcomes, as well as communicating with clients and their other healthcare providers, Dr. Katie Landier, PT, DPT, ensures that her clients have the knowledge to choose the best course of action for their health and recovery.
